Led into an adult world of drugs and kinky sex parties by Frank DeLuca, a married man twice her age, the fifteen-year-old had become his sexual slave--desperately, blindly devoted to him. when her parents divorced their daughter's shocking secret life, her enraged father threatened to kill them both. But the lovers struck first, leaving a scene of appalling family carnage.

rowing into womanhood in a maximum security prison, Patricia Ann Columbo has finally revealed to author Clark Howard what really happened that dark and fateful night. From their intimate conversations come a chilling, first-hand view of cold-blooded murder--and a twisted love gone horribly wrong.

From Library Journal
In 1976, Frank and Mary Columbo and son Michael were slaughtered in their home outside Chicago. The sensational nature of the crime intensified with the arrest and then conviction of the Columbos' 19-yar-old daughter, Patty, and her 38-year-old married lover, Frank DeLuca. Court testimony depicted Patty as a lying slut; stories about her sordid sex life with DeLuca kept the presses turning, and she was even reported later to be the center of a prison sex scandal. But what was her story? Howard, who talked to Patty, here gives a masterful account of both the story heard in court and the story she tells: that of an abused and confused girl struggling with an angry father and a domineering lover with unusual demands. The book's structure, which goes back and forth in time, may be a bit hard to follow at first, but the gripping narrative and the enigmatic, intriguing Patricia Columbo will keep readers involved. Only at the end will they find her version of events, which, Howard says, might not be true--but very well might be. The decision regarding her guilt is up to readers. This absolute spellbinder is highly recommended for all true crime collections. Photos not seen.

From Kirkus Reviews
Deeply engaging tale of a teenager who may--or may not--have helped kill her parents. This is Clark's 20th work of mystery or true crime (Hard City, 1990, etc.). There's no question that Patricia Ann Columbo, 19, and her longtime sexual-sociopath lover, Frank DeLuca, 37, were involved in the murder of Patti's parents and her brother Michael, 13, in the family's Elk Grove Village, Illinois, home on a bloody spring night in 1976. But as the grisly details gather here, you note that Patti is never actually seen with weapon in hand--and by book's end you're likely to conclude that there's considerable evidence that Patti killed no one. Although she conspired with two men she thought were mob hit men to have her parents and brother killed, it seems that Patti's paranoid boyfriend actually did the deed in a fit of fear and rage that erupted during the perfect moment for a triple murder. Guilt fell first on Patti, who, upon her arrest, claimed to be able to remember that night only as if in a vision- -and, by the close here, it becomes clear how the hysterical teenager, who was in the house but not in the murder rooms, could remember the night of the killings only in a surreal way. Much of Howard's story comes from Patti herself, now 37, whom the author interviewed at length in prison, where she's serving a 200-to-300- year sentence. Howard takes no sides and is a model of evenhanded true-crime writing. Although paced for snails, with invented dialogue and much graphic lovemaking, his narrative keeps a tight grip, especially with Patti's forbidden 15-year-old body--and its ripening--as the emotional focus. A rich mix of sex and blood with eroticism too strong for any Amy Fisher-type TV miniseries--though it's a Drew Barrymore natural. A slaughter of lust, no love borne here
By Elisabeth Young
This is some of the better TRUE CRIME out there IF you don't mind when the author is personally involved throughout the entire book and his story is pretty much interwoven with that of Ms. Patricia Columbo. Now, in this case that makes sense as he grew up near the murder home and interviewed her personally for much of the book. It was necessary here so if that is okay with you this book might be one to pick up for a few bucks. Patricia is certainly one of our more mysterious and I hate to say it-attractive-female murderesses. The sheer brutality of the crimes is what really bothered me though. Making it through the info about her 13 year old brother's murder is very painful and disturbing. She even claimed to turn to him for comfort and protection before the slaughter. Sad and senseless as so many of these murders end up being but this is her story and if you read a lot of TC like I can't stop doing you should give this a try. There are many graphic and abhorrent sex scenes so reader be informed. UPDATE: After reading the other book on this case, "Mom, Dad, Mike, and Pattie" I would advise reading it first before "Love's Blood". I say this because the author, Clark Howard, seems to almost be taken with Pattie as he writes. He tries to put her in some kind of victim's light whereas Bonnie Remsberg's book has more information on the murder victims' lives. Clearly, she had more input from the Columbo's camp as compared to "Love's Blood".

True crime at it's finest!!
By I. Allison
Clark Howard has put together a masterpiece! He carefully paints a portrait of sex, drugs, brainwashing and love gone bad. How daddy's little girl became their ultimate nightmare. From the sexual abuse Patty suffered from the hands of her Uncle Gus, to dating a much married and quintuple father, Frank DeLuca who introduced her to drugs and various forms of sex too old for her 15 year old mind to understand. {Howard interjects his own thoughts in between on how this case became his obsession, but never chooses sides.} We, the readers, even hear Patty's own words as she reflects back on life before the crimes were committed. I was horrifed and intruiged in the same breath.

very good
By jim warner
I remember these murders happening a few miles away from where I lived,I am also the same age as Patricia Columbo. This is a very good book that finally shows in depth details of this horrible crime and the following trial.Besides obvious grief for the family,I felt a twinge of sorrow for Patty, who's young mind was manipulated by this vile, horrendous older man.I read this in 1 day.A shocking sad story of lost and ruined lives.
