From Publishers Weekly
Best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon (The Dark-Hunter novels) restores three out-of-print titles in the series the League Novels, creating a more pronounced interconnected universe between the books. The first in the trilogy offers new readers an introduction to her Ichidian Universe, while restoring parts from the original manuscript and other rewritten material for the more familiar fan. Princess Kiara Zamir in repulsed by those who perpetuate violence like the brutal attacks on her family. Nykyrian Quiakides, a hybrid human and Andarion (a predatory alien race), is a former assassin for The League, who now leads a group of vigilantes known as The Sentella. Ironically, Nykyrian's team finds themselves serving as protectors of Kiara against kidnappers and assassins, giving Kiara and Nykyrian, two broken individuals, a chance at romance-if they can survive. The story is fast-paced, with graphic violence and sex in almost equal amounts. Kenyon thrives when developing the relationship between the two protagonists, putting the focus on relationships rather than world-building, which may disappoint some readers.

One of the worst romance novels I've ever read
By Christy
This is the first book by Ms. Kenyon that I have ever read. I realize that this is one of her first works, and I also realize that she is very successful. I can only hope that her later works are better than this. I have read literally hundreds of romance novels of every kind as well as countless fantasy/sci-fi novels. This is a blending of the two, and both aspects are truly horrible. I am a very forgiving reader. If I enjoy the story, I don't mind a few inconsistencies or some cheesy dialogue.

This novel combines major inconsistency from one page to the next, ridiculously (and I mean RIDICULOUSLY) cheesy dialogue and writing, and some of the most baffling and weird plotting that I've ever come across in a book meant for adults. If I didn't know better, I would expect this novel from a 17 year old girl of mediocre writing ability on her first attempt at a full length novel. Yes, it's just THAT bad.

First of all, the sci-fi. The backdrop to this novel is very secondary. There is very little development of the world this is taking place in. It seemed as though the author gave almost no thought to setting. There is nothing interesting here, and what really amazed me is that although this story takes place in a completely different universe, one of the major characters plays a song that is well known right here on our own Earth. Absolutely no explanation or reason for this. Just dropped it in like it fit. HUH?! Do NOT read this novel if you are very interested in the sci-fi/fantasy element. I would give it a zero based on this.

Second, the plotting. Take every cheesy cliche from the past 50 years of romance writing and you will find it here highlighted and unapologetic. I have no problem with authors spinning stories based on tried and true formulas, but this defies all logic. One of the most heinous examples of paper thin plotting is that at one point, Kiara wants to find out about Nykyrian's past. She's at his house and magically happens upon videos that were taken of his past life. Apparently, this guy must have had a full time dedicated (but secret) film crew that documented everything that ever happened to him because suddenly, we get video glimpses of everything from his isolation and torture to encounters with school yard bullies. Truly, *was there* an invisible film crew following this guy around?! That's the only way all of this detailed footage could have been captured, and there is no (not one bit) mention of how these videos were taken. I could write dozens of examples like this to highlight the problems with plotting in this book. Furthermore, the characters are constantly having inner dialogue with themselves, in which they constantly tell themselves the exact same things over and over and over again. And I wish I had counted the number of times someone's "eyes widened in shock." Must have happened 100 times. Is that the only way to convey that someone was surprised by something? Apparently. And Nykyrian finds his long lost daughter AND long lost mother (in two completely different encounters) literally within minutes of reading and just a few pages.

The characters are weak, thin, predictable, unrealistic, and uninteresting. I literally had to force myself to read this book all the way through because I was just sure it would get better. Logic didn't explain the success of this novel and the sequels. I wouldn't read those sequels if someone paid me to do it. I could see a naive high school girl maybe liking this book. But if you have any expectation of even mild sophistication in writing, DON'T waste your time or money.

They led different lives until love unites them against evil
By A Customer
"They call him Nemesis. Once a renegade assassin, now a warrior-soldier sworn to protect the innocent from the ruthless mercenaries throughout the galaxies."
This implies quite the hero, and Nykyrian lives up to this promise of a troubled hero who thinks he needs to love from afar. He has always admired Kiara when she danced. Now his feelings lead him to accept the job to keep her alive. Kiara is intrigued, intimidated and confused by Nykyrian. She knows she can trust him with her life and to keep her safe, but can she trust him with her heart? She realizes that he does love her but cannot say it.
Kiara has a death contract on her because her father, Predident of the Gourish Consolate, Commander Tiarun Biardi, refused to be intimidated by Probekin threats. Against his better judgement, he hires Nykyrian but when it looks like Nykyrian has harmed his daughter, Commander Tiarum puts a contract on Nykyrian. Not the best move, since Kiara has married Nykyrian and danger to him is danger to her. Just being married to Nykyrian put her in danger, because he has many enemies. One who captures her and Nykyrian goes to save her knowing it will cost him his life...
This is a fast paced adventure with many emotional scenes that make the book hard to put down. The HEA ending is a must for my enjoyment of a book... and I did enjoy this one.

a riveting futuristic romance
By A Customer
I've read this hard to put down book twice. Full of suspense, adventure and romance it keeps the reader eager to find the outcome. The hero is belivable and his character is wonderfully constructed. The conflict of his watrring emotions and the situation itself makes for a great read. I look forward to more romances involving the remaining cast of characters in the story.
