From Publishers Weekly
Stewart's experience as a fighter pilot comes into play in vivid flying scenes featuring the beautiful but tough-as-nails USAF Capt. Tai Lei, but the scope of his ambitious fourth thriller is much larger. The war in question begins with the murder of Pakistan's president and the theft of a cache of American nuclear warheads. The president and his brain trust respond while CIA paramilitary agent Peter Zembeic engages in a complicated search for the stolen warheads, even traveling through Afghanistan and later Tajikistan on horseback. In Stewart's hands, many of the novel's surprising details feel entirely authentic. The complex plot has al-Qaeda's fingerprints on it and, engineered by a character identified as the Great One, targets two dozen world cities for destruction. Along the way, the story spins through more than 20 locations, including Qatar, Oman, France, Syria and Kyrgyzstan. Predictably, the world is brought to the brink of destruction. But Stewart is impressively skilled at presenting the entire tapestry of his war—the many threads of the terrorist, allied and American forces—and should hold his readers' interest. (Oct.)

Review
"Red-hot intrigue and combat action from a talented young writer."
--Stephen Coonts "The Fourth War is a masterpiece, one that sets new techno-thriller standards. Chris Stewart's literary torque wrench cranks up the tension to an unbearable point in this stark tale of the war on terror. The Fourth War is more than a page turner, it's a mind blower as he tosses twists, turns and surprises on every page. Bound to be a movie!" --Walter Boyne

Very Good Writing!!
By John R. Linnell
It is always interesting as to how one finds a new author. In this instance it was a shared interest in flying as this book was reviewed in the Air and Space magazine which I subscribe to which is published by the Smithsonian. I am always looking for a book written by a pilot and in this instance, Chris Stewart more than filled the bill as an ex-B1 pilot with a few prior books to his credit.
We can only hope that the forces against us discussed by the author are not as far along in their planning as they are in the book. In the story an elaborate scheme unfolds to steal 24 nuclear weapons from the Pakistani arsenal. These are weapons which are so small they can be carried by a person, yet they have a killing power which will change the world.
The remainder of the book deals with the assets we have deployed in the region and what they are able to do to deal with the threat. This is a book which will not help you sleep at night and it is well written from all points of view.
I have liked this writing well enough to purchase the few earlier novels Mr.Stewart has written. This is a very promising author of this genre of novel.

The Fourth War
By D. Richard Dance
This book seemed so short because it read so fast. As I neared the end I kept looking at the remaining pages trying to determine how the author, Chris Stewart, was going to solve some major world problems in so few of pages. And then he surprised me and not only did so, but turned the world upside down which caused me to read the book again. It is as good as a Grisham novel that keeps you gripped in reading, wanting to see each new turn of events. The storyline is so plausible in today's terrorist climate and so believable that you know it could occur. Only minutes separate the good guys from the bad guys, but then you have to determine which is which and who did what when. 5 stars all the way. Richard

Crackling adventure on every page.
By Jerry Saperstein
Imagine terrorists gaining possession of a small, highly transportable nuclear weapon. Now multiply that by 24 and think about how concerned governments like the US and Israel might react.
That's the core of this quite exciting military techno-thriller. Peter Zemebeic is a dedicated CIA operative and Shane Bradley is the commander of a B-2 bomber wing. Together, with their support personnel, they are thrust into the center of the hunt for the weapons.
Chris Stewart relies on a lot of invention to drive his plot forward, but he pulls it off well. The characters, while larger than life, are absorbing.
"The Fourth War" is a page-turner like Clancy's early work and all of W.E.B. Griffin's work. There's not a dull page in the book: not a one. One can hope that Zemebeic, in particular, becomes the core of series for Stewart: he definitely has the potential.
One caveat: St. Martin's Press, the publisher's imprint, should be ashamed for letting this book out the door with so many editing and proofing errors. None of them are significant enough to mar the reader's pleasure or progress, but it is embarassing to see so many errors. "RGPs" for "RPGs." "Suite" for "suit." There are dozens of other errors. It is apparent that St. Martin's is not spending the money to use literate editors or proofreaders. These mistakes do not detract from Stewart's excellent writing, but they are annoying.
